A classic Abercromby design, this hole tempts one to go for a longer carry over the heather in the hope of being rewarded with a shorter shot to the green. Failure results in a shot from a difficult lie. Success does indeed make for an easier second. Playing too conservatively to the left risks a severe bunker. Having driven to the fairway, the player needs to carry a medium iron onto the green over two swales short of the green, and avoid the bunkers left and right.
